A UNESCO WORLD HARITAGE SITE: GREAT BARRIER REEF


The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world. The reef is located in the Coral Sea, in front of the coast of Queensland in northeast Australia. The reef, which stretches over 2600 kilometers and it can be distinguished from the space. The Great Barrier Reef is a habitat for many species; it is possible to find a lot of fish, sharks, mollusks, corals and a lot of endangered species.

A large area of the reef is protected by the Marine Park of the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef has been declared a World Heritage Site by the Unesco in 1981.
